Description: Update: The Libraires have recently joined the EEBO Text Creation Partnership (TCP). To accompany the citations and page images, the Text Creation Partnership is in the process of creating SGML coding for the full text of 25,000 EEBO works, so users can search the full ASCII text of the documents and view both the text and the corresponding original page images.
There are two ways to search and view TCP texts:
  • When searching in EEBO, use the LIMIT TO drop-down box to choose "Items with keyed full text." Any keywords entered will be searched in the full-text of all available documents.
  • Or, try searching at the University of Michigan site where the data is prepared, checked, and loaded before it is delivered to ProQuest. To search the texts from the University of Michigan interface, please visit the TCP website where the data is prepared, checked, and loaded before it is delivered to ProQuest. To search the texts from the University of Michigan interface, please visit the TCP website at http://ets.umdl.umich.edu/e/eebo/.
Beginning with Caxton's edition of Chaucer, Early English Books Online (EEBO) contains page images of more than 125,000 books, pamphlets, and broadsides from the beginning of printing in England up until 1700.
Subjects particularly relavent to this database include literature, history, religion, philosophy, history of medicine, art, astronomy, geography, music, domestic arts, etc.
EEBO includes books printed in English in any country (including the American colonies) and books printed in England in many languages. Titles are drawn from:
  • Pollard & Redgrave's Short-Title Catalogue (1475-1640)
  • Wing's Short-Title Catalogue (1641-1700)
  • Thomason Tracts covering the English Civil War (1640-1661).
Users can search through titles and bibliographic descriptions for keywords or phrases, authors, or subject headings and limit by publication date, publishers or imprint, or language. Images are stored in the PDF format, which requires Adobe Acrobat Reader.
