THE COLLECTION

The diary fragment and letters were donated by Roy G. Hucheson, West Fork, November 9, 1977.

The material consists of a diary fragment, "Sketches of a journey from Camden [New York] to [Peoria County?] Illinois," written by an unknown woman, June 13 - November 6,1837. Also included in the collection are eleven Civil War letters (most of them written by M. E. Barnes, a member of the Army of the Cumberland, later called the Army of Georgia), an envelope, and an unsigned poem.

RESTRICTIONS APPLY. Item number 1, the diary fragment, is fragile. Positive photocopy available for research. Use of the original material requires special permission.

  12. Postmarked May 12 (no year). Envelope addressed to M. R. Barnes, Lee Centre, Lee Co., Illinois. Stamp has been removed.
