Series 3.  Office Files (Boxes 54-59)
 

These records document the history, organization and management of the Stone firm.  While  a small number of records date from the 1940s and 1950s, the majority of documents pertain to the 1960s and early 1970s.  The Stone firm consisted of four companies: Edward Durell Stone & Associates,  Edward Durell Stone, Inc., Hicks Drafting Corporation, and Torch Realty.  These files contain business and financial materials pertaining to each company, while also documenting the relationship and inter-dependence of the companies within the firm.  Each of the subseries contain materials from all companies within the firm; these have been interfiled with the name of the company being maintained.   Files of the Edward Durell Stone Foundation, a charitable foundation which Stone established in 1963, are also included.

Business ledgers of the Stone firm include ledgers containing financial statistics for all companies within the firm, as well as ledgers which pertain to individual companies within the firm.  These ledgers have been microfilmed.  See Series 7 for a complete listing.

Subseries 1.  Administrative and Office Management
 
Contains material pertaining to office administration and management of Edward Durell Stone & Associates, Edward Durell Stone, Inc., Hicks Drafting Corporation and Torch Realty Corporation.  Included are active job lists, correspondence, inter-office correspondence, job costs, man-hour records, personnel records, progress reports, prospects, research files, and specialist files. Also included are personal correspondence of Edward Durell Stone and his third wife, Violet Stone, for 1973.  Also included are financial records and legal documents dealing with the dissolution of Hicks Drafting Corporation.  Files are arranged alphabetically by folder title.

Subseries 3.  Corporate Financial Records
 
These files contain the corporate financial records of  companies within the Stone organization for the years 1945 to 1973.  Included are accounts receivable and accounts payable statements, accounts receivable schedules, job cost reports, trial balance sheets, trust account statements, minutes of principals and partners meetings, salary reviews and personnel rosters, financial reviews, forecasts and statements from Arthur Andersen & Co., daily cash balances and net worth statements, profit sharing records, bank records, bank books, payroll records and daily cash balances, paid invoices and correspondence for Edward Durell Stone & Associates, Edward Durell Stone, Inc., Hicks Drafting Corporation, and Torch Realty.  Also included are records for the proposed sale of Edward D. Stone, Inc. and the consultancy of Edward Durell Stone in 1974, the files of Joseph L. Scarin, Controller and General Manager of the Stone firm, as well as the records of the Edward Durell Stone Foundation.  Also included are financial ledgers and balance sheets for all the companies within the Stone organization.  These include accounts payable ledgers, cash books, check  registries, daily cash balances, fees  journals, invoice journals, payroll books, project ledgers and purchase journals.  Some files are more complete than others.
