NMR studies of the structure of aqueous solutions. I. The aqueous N-methylpropionamide system

by Hinton, James F.; Westerman, C. E.

The proton magnetic resonance of aqueous N-methylpropionamide solutions has been studied as a function of the mole fraction of water and as a function of temperature. The NMR data indicate that the addition of N-methylpropionamide to water produces an initial structure-making effect in water with a maximum at approximately 0.85 mole fraction of water. The further addition of the organic component to water produces a structure breaking effect with respect to water.
