Mullins Library GIS Workstation

ArcGIS, developed by Esri, is the most widely used GIS software package. Mullins Library has a GIS workstation loaded with Esri’s ArcGIS version 10.2 software in the main service area on Level 2. Ask at the Reference Desk and a staff member will log you on.

Please review our Library GIS User policies before using the machine.

Download and Transfer Options

  • Users of ArcGIS versions 10 and above can easily package, transfer and share map files by saving them as map packages. These packages can then be:
  • Saved to a USB drive (Recommended. Note that you must bring your own USB drive - the University Libraries do not supply, sell, or loan these products.)
  • Saved to the University’s dropbox system
  • Saved to
  • Uploaded to ArcGIS Online (Zipped shapefiles with up to 1000 features, tabular data and GPX files only)
  • Sent via email (most GIS files will be too large for this)
  • Saved on the hard disk (C drive) by creating a folder with your name (e.g. johnsmith) for temporary storage. The University Libraries cannot guarantee long-term storage on the hard disk. Re-imaging of public computers in the University Libraries takes place on regular basis, and your file and/or folder may be subject to cleanup/deletion/removal.

Specialized copying services are required to create a large-format copy of a map. Copies can be made from various formats including PDF, TIFF, and JPEG files. The maximum size copy varies. Cost is usually calculated by square foot, and some businesses charge an additional "file opening" fee.

At the University of Arkansas Fayetteville, and in the City of Fayetteville, businesses offering such copying services include (no endorsement is implied):
