Scope and Content Note
The collection includes all contest entries in the Gingles and Westbrook prizes spanning the years 1994 to 2007. The collection does not include the winning manuscripts or other articles considered for publication in the Arkansas Historical Quarterly for the years 1994 to 1997.
NOTE: This is an open ended collection into which subsequent entries will be integrated. For Gingles and Westbrook contest entries from 1986-1988 see MC 757; for entries from 1989, 1991-1993 see Boxes 1-4 of MC 1024.

Biographical Note
The Arkansas Historical Association (AHA) hosts an annual contest for the best papers on Arkansas history. AHA awards the Violet B. Gingles Prize for the best manuscript on a general subject or individual related to Arkansas history. The Association also awards the Lucille Westbrook Local History Award for the best manuscript on a local Arkansas subject focusing on a neighborhood, city, county, or aspect of regional history, or a person associated with local history. The winning entries, as well as other outstanding entries, are published in the Arkansas Historical Quarterly.

The entries are arranged in chronological order and then in alphabetical order by title of entry.
Acquisition Information
The Arkansas Historical Association's Gingles and Westbrook Contest Entries Papers were donated to the Special Collections, University of Arkansas Libraries, on an periodic basis beginning in 1991 by the Arkansas Historical Association. Materials were most recently donated in August 2007.
Processing Information
Sections processed by Vera Ekechukwu; completed in 1994 and 2000. Additional materials processed by Todd E. Lewis; completed in December 2013.
Additional materials (Box 8) processed by Katrina Windon in June 2018; inventory for Boxes 1-4 added.
