Biographical Note

The first cooperative effort for carrying on Extension work in Searcy County was made on October 4, 1910 but it was not until 1917 when Mrs. Mattie B. Watkins became the first Home Demonstration Agent in Searcy County. The main mission of the early Extension Homemakers Clubs was to reform agriculture and improve the rural conditions. The current Extension Clubs' focus is on self improvement through continuing education, leadership development, and community service. This is accomplished through regular club meetings and special projects organized throughout the community.
