The papers contain letters written by William Richard to his mother (most of these letters are from the war period), letters which William Richard received from the French and Belgian families where he was stationed while in Europe, and other family and official correspondence; twenty New Mexico color postcards; ten Diamond Cave, Jasper, Arkansas, black and white postcards; greeting cards; school records; certificates; diplomas; awards; newspaper clippings; brochures; pamphlets; identification cards; memory books/scrapbooks with letters, greeting cards, Pine Bluff, Arkansas, postcards, programs, admission tickets, and photographs; a picture album; studio portraits and other photographs; and miscellaneous memorabilia.

Biographical Note

William Richard Leslie, a son of James L. Leslie and Ona Waller Leslie, was born on October 12, 1915, in Warren, Arkansas. He graduated from Pine Bluff, Arkansas, High School in 1933. He attended the Arkansas Agricultural and Mechanical College, Monticello, Arkansas, and graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, Arkansas, in 1938. While in college, he was a member of Alpha Lambda Chi and Beta Gamma Sigma. Leslie served in the Army during the World War II with the 79th Division in Europe. He began work for the Veterans Administration after his discharge at Little Rock, Arkansas, and was transferred to Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1948. Leslie retired from the United States Civil Service in 1973.
