Biographical Note

The Episcopal Church was organized in Fayetteville, Arkansas on May 23, 1848, by the Rev. W.C. Stout. The first church building, erected in 1854, was destroyed by fire at the beginning of the Civil War and it was not until 1872 that the cornerstone of a new building was laid. The congregation grew rapidly after World War II, and the physical plant expanded accordingly. A Parish House to serve the church organizations and the church school was completed in 1953, the sanctuary was enlarged, and an Episcopal Student Center was built at the University. Late in the twentieth century a large parish hall and administrative offices were added.

In 1973 the Libraries microfilmed 49 items, described as the Parish register, 1848-1904, and other documents, 1854-1887 and n.d. In 1986 another group of papers was donated to the library, which was processed in 1999 as MS collection 1079. In 1990 a Deposit Agreement was executed by M.V. Meisch, head of the church vestry, and Michael J. Dabrishus, head of Special Collections, designating Special Collections as the repository of its archives. Other documents were deposited in Special Collections in 2003 by parishioners Kay DuVall and Juana Young.
