Scope and Content Note

The papers consist of correspondence, speeches, press releases, financial records, and other papers pertaining mostly to the professional, political, and governmental career of Robinson, especially as regards to his role as a Congressman and chairman of the Committee on the Public Lands; the Arkansas gubernatorial election in 1912, mainly congratulatory messages to Robinson on his election as Arkansas Governor; and Robinson's senatorial career. Specific areas to which records relate include: the National and State Drought Relief Committees' effort to aid the farmers in drought-stricken Arkansas in 1930, the A.B. Banks vs. State court case, the St. Francis Levee District "Sunk Lands" case, and the Natural Gas and Petroleum Company, El Dorado, Arkansas/T. H. Barton case. The papers also include one folder of correspondence, miscellaneous papers, and photographs related to Nevin E. Neal and his work on the biography of Joseph Taylor Robinson ca 1950s.

Biographical Note

Joseph Taylor Robinson (1872-1937) was a United States Congressman and a Senator from Arkansas. Robinson, while serving as Governor of Arkansas, was elected by the General Assembly to succeed Jeff Davis, who died on January 3, 1913, in the U.S. Senate.

Acquisition Information

The materials in the Joseph Taylor Robinson Papers, Supplement 2, were separated from the Jeff Davis Papers (MC 718) on December 13, 1988. The Jeff Davis Papers were donated to Special Collections by Jeff Davis, Jr., Little Rock, Arkansas, on December 22, 1987.
