Scope and Content Note

The scrapbook, compiled by Holman Richmond's mother, Adelaide Holman Richmond, documents her son's World War I experiences. It contains newspaper and magazine clippings, letters, memoranda, telegrams, certificates, programs, menus, travel passes, circulars/general orders, announcements, receipts, picture postcards, photographs, and other memorabilia.

Biographical Note

Holman Richmond (1890-1964) grew up in Fort Smith (Sebastian County) and graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1913 with a degree in mechanical engineering. When the United States entered World War I, Richmond enlisted in the army and was sent overseas to France, where he collected many photographs and other items as mementos of his participation.

The Holman Richmond War Scrapbook was donated to Special Collections, University of Arkansas Libraries in 1992 through Elise Richmond Vinzant of Fayetteville, Arkansas.
