Scope and Content Note
Raw data forms with handwritten notations recording precipitation, temperature, and river stages at various locations taken by U.S. Weather Service personnel were compiled from the late nineteenth century up to 1979. The data has been used to produce reports in both manual and machine readable formats by the Bureau since its initial collection. The records have also been used extensively by University of Arkansas Geography Department students and faculty while in the possession of the department and prior to its transfer to the Special Collections division in 1993.

Arrangement of the Papers
The data forms have been placed into alphabetically ordered containers by Arkansas place name and arranged chronologically within the containers. Summary forms are interfiled with individual monthly forms. The containers have been sequentially numbered for retrieval purposes. The records are incomplete and data forms for all years are not available for all locations.
Acquisition Information
Records created by the United States Weather Bureau for the state of Arkansas were donated to Special Collections by Dr. John Hehr of the University of Arkansas Geography Department in September, 1993.
