Historical Sketch

The Arkansas Audubon Society was founded in 1955 at Petit Jean State Park. This non-profit organization is not affiliated with the national Audubon Society. The main goal of this independent society is to increase knowledge about the natural history in Arkansas through observation, investigation, education and publication. The society also serves as an important force in conserving Arkansas's natural resources. In addition, the club works with the Arkansas Bird Records Committee in documenting Arkansas's birds.

The Arkansas Audubon Society continues to be active. Every summer they host the Halberg Ecology Camp in Clearfork, Arkansas to educate youth about wildlife preservation. Also, the club hosts seasonal meetings and sends out a newsletter four times a year to members.
