Scope and Content Note
The Elizabeth Reagan Journals Addendum consists of handwritten journals, personal letters, and financial documents dated from 1939 - 2009. This collection holds twenty-eight hardback journal books, four Big Chief notepads used as journals, and one composition notebook. Other materials include personal accounts such as schedules for the children’s chores, prayers, and family expectations. It appears that these things were well documented to help keep track of her many children, she also refers to mentoring other mothers in her parental methodology in her journals. Personal letters to her husband, Robert “Bob” were written during a time when he was travelling for work and they had little opportunity to talk about family problems and solutions so she resorted to letters. Also included were personal letters sent to a family friend and former minister, “Father Egan” during the difficult child-rearing years. Financial documents span in dates from 1946-1961. High School papers written in 1939-1941 are also a part of this collection.

Biographical Note
Elizabeth “Betty” Reagan (1922-2020) recorded the early days of raising ten children intentionally in the Catholic faith, on a farm, living her dream- a repeated theme throughout her writings. Her journals reveal a careful mother, respectful wife, cherished friend, and very involved citizen of the town of Fayetteville, Arkansas. The journals in the addendum find Elizabeth Reagan coping with the devastation of divorce and raising her children alone as a single mother. This addition to the previous collection of journals unfolds the continued story of a large, close-knit family who has produced several public figures that have served in Fayetteville, and the state of Arkansas at large.
