Scope and Content Note
The scrapbook contains materials depicting the activities connected with the contest itself. These include photographs, newspaper clippings about the fundraising programs, and the correspondence from various business organizations, local government offices, public schools and the university, student Greek societies, a hospital, churches, etc., pledging their cooperation and support for the club's endeavor to improve the city's appearance. It also contains various printed material, photographs, and newspaper clippings illustrating the community's improvements and growth in agriculture, education, industry, health facilities, as well as the services to Veterans facilities and children's agencies. Also included is one reel of microfilm.

Biographical Note
The Goldenrod Club and Junior Civic League, Fayetteville, Arkansas, affiliated to the General Federation of Women's Clubs, sponsored the entry of Fayetteville in the Nationwide City Beautification contest in 1960-1962. Several projects, geared towards the contest, were sponsored by the club in cooperation with other civic organizations, garden clubs, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts. They included city-wide clean-up drive; planting of trees, flowers and shrubs; education projects designed to encourage homeowners to keep their property attractive; the improvement of the Walker City Park; the highway beautification, and many others.

The scrapbook was donated to Special Collections on December 5, 1995 by the Fayetteville Public Library, Fayetteville, Arkansas.
