Biographical Note

The Arkansas College, Fayetteville, Arkansas, was founded by Robert Graham (1822-1901) and chartered by the Arkansas State General Assembly on December 14, 1852. The college was the first educational institution in the state of Arkansas that was ever granted a Charter. Eight classes graduated from the College between 1852 and 1861 when the school was closed because of the outbreak of the Civil War.
