Scope and Content Note

Photocopy of a nineteen-page typescript of childhood reminiscences of Lillian May Combs Idle. The narrative contains details of their journey from Centralia, Illinois, by train, steamboat, and coach to take up farming; of the daily life of a large extended family on a succession of farmsteads in the eastern part of the county; of the deaths of many children and some adults to sickness and accidents. Appended to her narrative are genealogical lists of the Combs family and their antecedents and descendants, as well as of Lillian May Combs's husband's family, the Idles. Also included is a photocopy of four pages of the composition book in which Mrs. Idle wrote her manuscript.

Biographical Note

Lillian May Combs Idle was born in 1869. She, with her family, lived in Independence County, Arkansas from 1877 to 1890.

The Lillian May Idle Reminiscences were donated to Special Collections, University of Arkansas Libraries in 1991 through Dorothy Dawes of New Orleans, Louisiana.
