Biographical Note

George Kell, an Arkansas native, a Hall of Fame baseball player, and a distinguished broadcaster, reached the major baseball league with the Philadelphia Athletic in 1943. In 1946, Kell joined the Detroit Tigers and continued his career with the Chicago White Sox (1954-1956) and Baltimore Orioles (1956-1957). Following his retirement as a baseball player in 1959, Kell joined the Tigers radio/television team and worked as a broadcaster until 1997, ending a 44-year career with the Tigers. In addition to his broadcasting work, Kell served ten years on the Arkansas State Highway commission (1973-83).
