Scope and Content Note

The collection contains Lucille McCarty's autograph book with inscriptions written by friends in Ponca, Arkansas, 1927-1936; eleven greeting cards, ca 1910-1944; one postcard depicting the Lost Valley Lodge, Ozark Mountains, Arkansas, ca 1954; and four photographs (1935) of Bert McCarty family, their home, and a store building "Cedar Crest Camp."

Biographical Note

Lucille McCarty Kelly's father, Bert McCarty, a businessman from Ponca City, Oklahoma, purchased a land property in the late 1920s in Ponca, Arkansas, from the Clemmer family, his parents-in-law. One of the structures erected on the site was a store with a café that became known locally as Cedar Crest Camp. The store was operated by McCarthy's until the 1940s after which its name was changed by new owners to Lost Valley Lodge and Store.

Acquisition Information

The Lucille McCarty Kelly Collection was donated to Special Collections, University of Arkansas Libraries in 2000 by Ellen Compton of Fayetteville, Arkansas.
