Biographical Note
Joseph Bartlett (J.B.) Porter was born February 22, 1839 and died November 1, 1913. He served in the Confederate Army with the 1st Arkansas Mounted Rifles from November 16th, 1861 until he was captured May 3rd, 1865. He was the father of Una Porter who was born June 3, 1877 and died in 1971. Una Porter attended college at Arkansas Cumberland College in Clarksville, Johnson County, Arkansas and later became a teacher. She married Dr. James William (J.W.) Ogilvie who was born March 10, 1851 and died February 19, 1921. J.W. Ogilvie graduated from the Arkansas Medical School in Little Rock, Pulaski County, Arkansas in 1892 and returned to his hometown of Harmony, Johnson County, Arkansas to practice medicine where he became the community doctor.

The Porter-Ogilvie Correspondence Collection was donated to Special Collections, University of Arkansas Libraries, on July 29, 2003 by James R. King of Eufaula, Oklahoma and Wendall King of Ava, Missouri.
