Thomas Henry (T.H.) Barton was born in Marlin, Texas on September 20, 1881. His father, Thomas Killebrew Barton, was a farmer and merchant. T.H. Barton moved to El Dorado, Union County, Arkansas, in January of 1921 after a variety of previous occupations from banking to lumber, as well as serving in the Arkansas National Guard, U.S. Army, and attaining the rank of Colonel in the Army Reserve. He made a fortune during the oil boom in El Dorado in the 1920s and also helped jump-start the livestock industry in Arkansas through the Arkansas State Fair. On July 13, 1925, he married Madeline Mary Latimer. Colonel Barton served as president of Lion Oil Refining Company from 1929 to 1955 and also owned several radio and TV stations such as KARK in Little Rock.
