Biographical Note
The Colonial Garden Club of Fayetteville, Arkansas, was founded in January 1960 to coordinate the activities of persons interested in more and better gardens. Other goals included studying all aspects of gardening, increasing active interest in civic beautification, and to aid in the protection of wild flowers and birds. The founding officers included Mrs. Frank G. Lee, president; Mrs. E.A. Walker, vice-president; Mrs. Rufus Cherry, secretary; Mrs. Leslie Hammonds, treasurer; and Mrs. Emory Gose, historian. During its thirty years of existence, the Colonial Garden Club planted trees and shrubs in the median of Arkansas Boulevard, established and maintained garden projects at the Fayetteville City Hospital, and engaged in efforts to clean historical sites and cemeteries. The club disbanded in 1990 because of declining membership.
