Biographical Note

The Orfeo Production Collection includes photographs, reels of audio and correspondence from the 1973-1974 academic year. The Orfeo production was directed by Blanche Thebom, opera singer Mezzo-soprano who performed at the Metropolitan Opera from 1941-1967 and later became a professor of music and opera director at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR).

The performance of "Orfeo" is a translation of the Italian opera "Orpheus" by D. Von Gluck, translated in 1973 by Blanche Thebom. It is a Greek mythological love story about Orpheus retrieving his love Eurydice from the Underworld. The UALR production ran approximately one hour and forty-one minutes long and included the opera, ballet performances, accompanied by a recorded orchestra.
