Historical Sketch
Providence Baptist Church, in Fayetteville, Washington County, Arkansas was organized in the home of J.M. Robinson with three families in attendance on October 23, 1891. These nine members purchased land and built the first church in Washington County. By 1892, the first service was held in the building, led by pastor H.B. Borders. In 1930, the Bible study group decided to discontinue services at Providence Baptist Church. The congregation met for midweek prayer until 1935. In 1951, a new church was built on Highway 16 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Providence Baptist Church was part of the Washington-Madison Baptist Association, as well as the Southern Baptist Convention. The church closed on March 28, 2008 because of declining membership.
