Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of letters Bradley wrote to his family when overseas, journals documenting his the trips he took to Alaska and Mississippi, audio CDs of his key memories, a DVD with Bradley family memories, photographs of his travels and family, and some general biographical material.

Materials include correspondence, audio/visual CDs and DVD, journals, newspaper clippings, photographs, and biographical material.

Biographical Note

Arthur Bradley Jr. was born in Morrilton, Conway County, Arkansas on July 2, 1909. At the age of 12, Arthur Bradley Jr. moved to El Dorado, Union County, Arkansas with his father, Arthur Bradley, mother Cordelia Andrews Bradley and his twin brother, Edgar. When the Great Depression hit, Arthur traveled with a friend to the West Coast, living in Washington and California. He was a man of the sea and worked on boats traveling along the west coast. After World War II, Arthur went back to live in El Dorado where he entered the real estate business. At one time he was chair of the state Real Estate Commission. He was a man who loved to travel and explore even as he grew older. He went back to Alaska with his family, to Mississippi with his friend, and retraced the Natchez Trace. Bradley died on February 8, 2001, in Farmington, New Mexico.

The Arthur Bradley Jr. Papers were donated to the Special Collections Department, University of Arkansas Libraries, on October 16, 2008, by Mary Virginia Heath, Howard Bradley, and Martha Bradley.
