Gordon Daniel Morgan was born on October 31, 1931 in Mayflower, Arkansas. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Arkansas AM&N College in Pine Bluff in 1953. He went on to receive his Master of Arts in Sociology from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville in 1956 and earned his Ph. D. in Sociology in 1963 from Washington State University. Morgan held teaching positions as an Instructor of Sociology at AM&N College from 1959-1960, a Research and Teaching Assistant at Washington State University from 1960-1963, an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Lincoln University from 1965-1969, and an Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville starting in 1969. Morgan stayed with the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville for the rest of his professional career. He was promoted to Full Professor in 1973 and then to University Professor in 2004. Morgan retired from the university in 2012 at which time he became an emeritus professor. In 2019, one of the four residence halls of the university’s Northwest Quad was named in honor of Morgan for “helping make the university a more welcoming place to all who came.” Gordon Morgan wrote heavily, publishing over a dozen books, more than twenty journal articles, completed over twenty manuscripts, over twenty newspaper articles, and ten plays. This collection contains many of these writings in its second series of contents. Dr. Morgan passed away in December 2019.
