Historical Note

Electromap, Inc. was a software company in Fayetteville, Arkansas incorporated in 1987. The company was started and owned in equal shares by Richard M. Smith, a professor of geography at the University of Arkansas who served as president of Electromap's Board of Directors, his wife, Joan Y. Smith, and cartographer Gregory Mitchell, the latter two both serving as vice-presidents of the company.

Electromap published four complete atlas and statistics programs. The first, World Atlas, published in 1989, was followed by U.S. Atlas and International Business and Economic Atlas, all licensed with the California company Mindscape. A fourth program, Infonation, was licensed with Softkey International. On September 29, 1995, Softkey International bought all Electromap shares.
