Biographical Note

Emma Elizabeth Wayland was born October 12, 1881 to Stephen J. and Asenath M. Finley Wayland. Wayland had five siblings- William W., James Henry, Matilda Ann, Cora Bell, and Laura Kate. In 1910, Wayland traveled from Arkansas to Abilene, Texas. Keeping a journal throughout the trip, Wayland documented purchases, sights, and people she met along the way. Upon returning home, she continued writing about her social, family, and church activities. Wayland returned to her home in Mountain Home, Baxter County, Arkansas in the late summer of 1911. No records indicate Wayland ever marrying or having children. On April 11th, 1920 Wayland died in the Amos/Lakeview area, Baxter County, Arkansas.
