This collection consists predominantly of photographs from Andrew Lucas as photographer and editor for the Arkansas Alumnus. The collection also contains correspondence, publications and papers collected by Lucas predominantly pertaining to University history.

Biographical Note

Andrew Lucas graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1959 with a degree in journalism and began working with the Arkansas Alumni Association shortly afterwards. He became editor of the group’s publication, The Arkansas Alumnus, for its October 1960 issue, succeeding Reba Wilcoxon in the position. Lucas served in this position for twenty seven years, editing his final edition in June of 1987. After this, he served as Acting Executive Director until October 1988 when he became Assistant Executive Director after Myron D. “Mike” Macechko took over as Executive Director. Lucas served in this new position for nearly three years before officially retiring in September 1991.

Arrangement of the Papers

Box 1 is arranged with correspondence first followed by University History Files, Publications, and Photographs. The photographs, beginning in Folder 14, are grouped by the following topics in order: UA Presidents and Chancellors, UA Other Administrators, UA Professors, UA Students and Student Groups, UA Athletics, UA Events, UA Buildings, Alumni Association Presidents, Alumni Association Class Reunions, Notable Individuals, and other People (arranged alphabetically by last name). Box 2 consists of oversized materials.
