Scope and Content Note

This collection includes two certificates awarded to Mack Koonce in June 1967. The first certificate grants Koonce honorary citizenship in the state of Maryland and the second names him an honorary Lieutenant Colonel Aide-de-Camp in the Alabama State Militia.

Biographical Note

Mack Rayford Koonce was born on September 18, 1934 in Ripley, Tennessee to Malcom and Alma Koonce. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Arkansas in 1959. Koonce worked as a political strategist and consultant for political races and was an active civic leader. He served on several board of directors including the United Fund, the Heart Fund, and the Red Cross; was President of the Pine Bluff Jaycees, Arkansas Jaycees, and Vice President of the U.S. Jaycees; and served as State Chairman for the March of Dimes (1967-1968); Chairman of the State of Arkansas First State Ethics Commission; was a member of Phi Kappa Alpha; and an honoree of the 1969 class of 10 Outstanding Young Men of America. Koonce died on January 8, 2010 in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
