Scope and Content Note

This collection is comprised of 76 periodicals on freedom of speech. The Yearbook of the Committee on Freedom of Speech of the Speech Association of America, was first published by the National Communication Association in 1960. In 1970, the title changed to Free Speech Yearbook. Currently this periodical is published under the title First Amendment Studies. The Freedom of Speech Newsletter was published by the Committee on Freedom of Speech, Speech Communication Association. The Communication Law Review, published by Freedom and Responsibilities of Speech Division, Southern States Communication Association, was first published in 1983 and is currently disseminated online.

Biographical Note

Stephen A. Smith is a professor emeritus of the University of Arkansas, Department of Communication. Smith served as an expert in the areas of freedom of speech, political communication, and new media. He retired in 2015.
