Black Alumni Society

The Black Alumni Society was founded in 1998 as a branch of the Arkansas Alumni Association. This formal establishment was prompted by a series of annual black alumni reunions which began in 1990. The stated goal of the society is “to promote communication and friendship among black alumni, faculty and friends of the University of Arkansas” through providing a structure to stay informed about and organize events and activities.

Multicultural Center

The Center for Multicultural and Diversity Education is part of the University of Arkansas’ mission to create a diverse and inclusive campus community. The center began in 1993 as the Black Cultural Center under recommendation by then chancellor Dan Ferritor. The name was changed to the Multicultural Center the following year and operated until 1999. The center re-opened in 2001 and has operated out of the student union to present.
