This collection is comprised of two bound manuscripts of Edwin B. Smith's An Atlas and Annotated List of the Vascular Plants of Arkansas, edited by the author, as well as Smith's correspondence with University of Arkansas at Monticello Professor of Biology Eric Sundell.

Biographical Note

Edwin Burnell Smith (1936-2017) was an award-winning Arkansas botanist and the author of An Atlas and Annotated List of the Vascular Plants of Arkansas.

Smith was born December 1, 1936 in Wellington, Kansas, to Sanford A. Smith and Zephalena Davis Smith. He earned a PhD in Botany from the University of Kansas in 1965, and then briefly taught at Rutgers University before joining the faculty at the University of Arkansas, where he worked until retiring in 1998. While at the University of Arkansas, Smith also served as Director of the Herbarium. Smith passed away on January 28, 2017.
