Patricia Evans Materials

 Collection
Identifier: MC 2157

Scope and Content Note

The collection consists primarily of a series of 105 black-and-white 35mm photographic negatives of Arkansas post offices. The photographs were taken in 1976 by Harrison Post Office Distribution Clerk Pat Evans in honor of the United States’ bicentennial. Prints (not included in the collection) were made of the negatives and displayed at the Harrison Post Office. The photographs cover post offices in six counties, and many images include postmasters, such as Darrell Gibson of Hasty, Charles Flood of Vendor, Edna Kent of Mt Judea, Mitchell Dodson of Bass, Betty Haney of Compton, Eul Dean Clark of Ponca, Duane Bishop of Dogpatch, Mike Slenz of Norfolk, Bill Bowden of Everton, and Lucile Baker of Gilbert. Brief captions by Evans accompany the negatives. Also included is a 1997 digital print of the Harrison Post Office, where Evans worked, but which had not been included in her original photographic survey.

In addition, the collection includes a selection of Arkansas memorabilia collected by Evans, including a souvenir booklet of 20 views of Hot Springs National Park, produced by Curt Teich and Co., a decorative stone souvenir from Hot Springs, Mt. Gayler Tower stationery, and an Arkansas Post National Memorial brochure.
