Scope and Content Note

The collection is comprised primarily of WWII-era correspondence from Richard L. Holt, Sr. to his wife and family. At the time, Mr. Holt was deployed in North Africa and Italy, and his wife and children were living in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Other items in the collection include a comic strip, a magazine clipping, and an event program. Correspondence is between Richard and his wife, unless stated otherwise.

Biographical Note

When Richard Lee Holt, Sr. was born on September 24, 1911, in Fayette, Missouri, his father, Wiley, was 36 and his mother, Edna, was 29. He married Minneford Frances Kitchel on August 16, 1930, in Fayetteville, Arkansas. They had ten children in 17 years. He died on September 18, 1982, in Fayetteville, Arkansas, at the age of 70, and was buried at the Fayetteville National Cemetery.

When Minneford Frances Kitchel was born on May 12, 1911, in Brazoria, Texas, her father, Charles, was 32, and her mother, Minnie, was 29. She died on February 24, 1984, in Fayetteville, Arkansas, at the age of 72, and was buried at the Fayetteville National Cemetery.

The Richard L. Holt, Sr. Papers were donated to the Special Collections Department by Lee Holt of Fayetteville, Arkansas, on January 12, 2017.
