Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of a script of Rachel Lynett's play, Abortion Road Trip, including a brief production history of the play, which debuted in 2017 at the Capital Fringe Festival in Washington, D.C., where it was awarded Best Comedy.

It also includes first drafts of two of her works, Well Intentioned White People and Good Bad People, along with a note from the author introducing the drafts.

Biographical Note

Rachel Lynett Spurgers is a playwright and the managing director of the Arkansas Theatre Collective.

Her works include Abortion Road Trip, Well-Intentioned White People, Choosing You, black kitchen sink, Refuge, Give Me Shelter, Tambien, and Breathe Me. She earned an M.F.A. in Playwriting from the University of Arkansas and a B.A. in Theatre and Gender Studies from the University of Notre Dame.

Arrangement of the Papers

The collection is arranged into two series, based on the stage of the work: Final Scripts and First Drafts. Materials are stored in a box with other smaller manuscript collections.

Acquisition Information

The Rachel Lynett Papers were donated to the Special Collections Department by the creator, Rachel Lynett Spurgers, on October 11, 2017. Materials in series II were donated by Spurgers on February 6, 2018.

Processing Information

Processed by Katrina Windon; completed in October 2017. Collection updated by Windon in March 2018 to incorporate an additional donation, which now forms Series II.
