The collection consists of an annotated typescript of James Whitehead's novel, Joiner, which focuses on a Southern NFL star. Annotations include both content additions and editorial revisions, and appear to have been made by at least two individuals.

Biographical Note
James Tillotson Whitehead was a poet, novelist, and Creative Writing professor.
Whitehead was born March 15, 1936, in St. Louis, Missouri. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Vanderbilt University, and an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Iowa. In 1965, he began teaching at the University of Arkansas, where he went on to co-found the Creative Writing program with William Harrison. He is the author of Joiner (1971), his only novel, and four books of poetry: Domains (1966), Local Men (1979), Actual Size (1985), and Near at Hand (1993).
Whitehead passed away August, 15, 2003, in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
