Biographical Note

Janet Allured is a historian and academic, and currently a history professor at McNeese State University. Allured earned her bachelor's degree in history from McNeese State in 1982, and her doctorate in history from the University of Arkansas in 1988. Her publications include Remapping Second-Wave Feminism: The Long Women’s Rights Movement in Louisiana, 1950-1997 (2016), "'Holy Boldness: Feminist Methodist Women in the South, 1960-1980'" (Methodist History vol. LIV, No. 3 (April 2016)), Louisiana Women: Their Lives and Times, co-edited with Judith E. Gentry in 2009, and Lake Charles, co-authored with Jessica Hutchings and Debbie Johnson-Houston in 2012.

Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of transcripts of eight interviews of residents of Boone County, Arkansas, that Janet Allured conducted as part of her research for her doctoral dissertation, Families, Food and Folklore: Women's Culture in the Post-Bellum Ozarks. Topics discussed by interviewees include farming, transportation, shivarees, and family life.
