Scope and Content Note
The collection consists of a copy of a typescript of Nancy Mooney Rector's unpublished 21-page memoir, "The House Built Upon the Sand," recounting her life at the Rector Plantation along the Arkansas River, near Little Rock. Topics include her family; the plantation's overseer, Mr. "Big" Williams, and other workers; agriculture; and the Great Flood of 1927.

Biographical Note
Nancy Mooney was born January 8, 1877, to John W. and Mary Cayce Mooney. When she married Henry Massey "Juba" Rector III (grandson of Henry M. Rector, Sr., Arkansas' sixth governor) she moved to the family's plantation along the Arkansas River. She passed away March 23, 1950, and is buried in Little Rock's Mount Holly Cemetery.

Acquisition Information
The Nancy Mooney Rector Memoir was donated to the Special Collections Department by her grandson Mike Rector of Little Rock, Arkansas, in January 2012.
