Jesse Sullivan Hudson was born March 25, 1896, to James Monroe Hudson and Edna Frances Jolly Hudson; he grew up in Cabot, Arkansas. James Monroe Hudson was a farmer and later a salesman for Cabot's Murrell Nursery Company and Little Rock's Vestal Company. Jesse Sullivan Hudson attended Hendrix University, served in World War I, and then earned a Master of Science from the University of Oklahoma and a Doctor of Education from Oklahoma State University. He worked as an educator for more than forty years. In 1924, he married Vivian Hollingsworth.
Scope and Content Note
The collection consists of materials related to the Hudson family of Arkansas: a photocopy of the "Memoirs of Jess S. Hudson," written at some point after 1924 and primarily detailing the early life of Jesse Sullivan Hudson in Cabot, Arkansas, and his service in France during World War I; and a color copy of a letter from J. E. Hudson to his wife Mrs. S. J. Hudson, while Hudson was serving during the Civil War, along with a transcript. In his letter, Hudson mentions fighting in the recent Battle of Shelbyville.
