Scope and Content Note

Typescript of Lee Riley Powell's book, J. William Fulbright and America's Lost Crusade: Fulbright's Opposition to the Vietnam War with some editing notes and markings; typescript of Powell's article, "The China Hearings: The Foreign Relations Committee as a Forum for Dissent," which was written as a graduate seminar paper and originally considered for inclusion as part of the book.

Biographical Note

Lee Riley Powell is a writer and political scientist. He currently serves as Co-Chair of the Economic Equality Caucus and Executive Director of the Delta Grassroots Caucus. Powell is the author of J. William Fulbright and His Time: A Political Biography (1996) and J. William Fulbright and America's Lost Crusade: Fulbright's Opposition to the Vietnam War (1984). Among other political roles, he served as a senior advisor to the Mississippi Delta Regional Inititiative during President Bill Clinton's administration (1999-2000) and as communications director and legislative assistant for U.S. Representative Bill Alexander.
