Biographical Note
The Wallace Institute was a Methodist school in Van Buren, Arkansas, originally founded as the Crawford Institute in 1854, with funding from the estate of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Wallace. It was renamed the Wallace Institute in 1857, with Peter A. Moses as its principal. The school closed in 1861 with the beginning of the U. S. Civil War, but the Wallace Institute Board of Trustees (later a Board of Directors) remained in existence to manage the endowment.
