Transcript of oral history conducted by then-Head of Special Collections Tom Dillard of Cornerstone Bank (Eureka Springs, AR) chairman John Fuller Cross on September 2, 2011. Interview was transcribed by Special Collections Adminstrative Assistant Valerie Robertson.

Topics include Cross' family, including his grandfather, Claude A. Fuller, and father, John Storrs Cross; Cross' childhood in Bethesda, MD, and Eureka Springs, AR; his grandfather's farm in Glade, Arkansas; his time as a student at the University of Arkansas, and accounts of his favorite professor, Dr. William Baerg; his service in the U. S. Army, including at Fort Chaffee; his father's appointment as Federal Communications Commissioner; Cross's work at the Bank of Eureka Springs (later Cornerstone Bank); the history of Eureka Springs, including Ozarka Water, Gerald L. K. Smith, and tourism; and Arkansas Democratic politics and politicians.

Biographical Note

John Fuller Cross is chairman of Cornerstone Bank in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

Cross was born June 13, 1934, to John Storrs Cross and Ruth Fuller Cross in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Cross grew up primarily in Bethesda, Maryland, before moving to Eureka Springs, Arkansas. He earned a degree in agriculture from the University of Arkansas in 1957, and then enlisted in the U. S. Army. While in college, Cross began serving on the board of directors for the Bank of Eureka Springs, which was then run by his grandfather, Claude A. Fuller; Cross later began to work at the bank as a cashier. When Fuller died in 1968, Cross took over as chairman, president, and CEO of the Bank of Eureka Springs. Cross continues to serve as chairman of the bank, which was renamed Cornerstone Bank in 2008.
