These papers consist of photocopies of Purdue's Tennessee Geological Survey notebooks. The titles for each notebook came from Purdue and/or the Tennessee Department of Conservation. The original copies are in the holdings of the Tennessee Department of Conservation, Division of Geology in Nashville, Tennessee.

Biographical Note

Albert Homer Purdue (1861-1917) was born near Yankeetown, Indiana. After graduating from Indiana State Normal School in 1886, Purdue taught school in Missouri and New Mexico. In 1892 and 1893 Purdue worked under J. C. Branner, the State Geologist of Arkansas. From 1896 to 1912, Purdue was the Head Professor of the Geology and Mining Department at the University of Arkansas. From 1912 until his death in 1917, Purdue was the State Geologist of Tennessee.

The Albert Homer Purdue Papers were donated to the Special Collections Department by Edward T. Luther of the Tennessee Department of Conservation (Nashville, Tennessee) on January 1, 1979.
