Horace P. Bryan, Greenwood, (Sebastian County) Arkansas, donated a collection of his papers to the Special Collections Department of the University Libraries on April 26, 1982.

Biographical Note

Born in western Arkansas in 1908, Horace Paul Bryan worked at about a dozen different trades and professions before retiring to Greenwood, Arkansas. H.P. Bryan was a farmer, coal miner, merchant marine, social reformer, and historian. Bryan may be most notable for his letters to the editor of The Tennessean (1940-1943), and his columns "Round These Workings," (1942) and "Round These Hills," (1978), both published by the Greenwood Democrat (Sebastian County).

Scope and Content Note

The collection, created by Mr. Bryan, consists of photocopies of various newspaper and magazine articles written by Mr. Bryan and/or about agriculture, coal mining, sea life, labor, and local history.
