Acquisition Information

The Fayetteville Perennial Garden Club Records were donated by Doris Murry of Fayetteville, Arkansas, president of the Perennial Garden Club on December 18, 1988. The supplementary papers to this collection were donated by Vera G. Hall of Fayetteville, Arkansas on November 11, 1992.

Additional materials (Box 4) were donated circa 2001.

Biographical Note

The club held its first meeting on June 18, 1930. Monthly meetings were held from September through May and included a Christmas Social. The Perennial Garden Club sponsored special projects including the beautification of Arkansas Avenue bordered by the University of Arkansas, and the Veterans' Administration Hospital grounds.

The records include minutes, membership lists, financial reports, program booklets, photographs, yearbooks, and clippings pertaining to the Fayetteville Perennial Garden Club.

Scrapbook includes finding aid, photographs, and photocopies pertaining to the club's earlier donations to Special Collections; photographs; meeting minutes; club yearbooks; clippings; bylaws; account of the club's history; and other materials.

Those pictured include Sonja Decker, Mary Alice Pearson, Charlotte Forsythe, Mary Cotterman, Sue Madison, Flossie Upchurch, Louise Brooks, Vera Wade, Vera Hall, Feriba McNair, Marion Lee Matthews, Lela Hodnett, Pauline Hollingsworth, Bettye Lewis, Doris Murry, Margy Scott, Margaret Lewis, Helen Brannan, and Emily Gregg, as well as Special Collections staff Charlene Kaufman, Norma Ortiz-Karp, Vera Ekechukwu, Andrea Cantrell, and Michael Dabrishus.

Also included is a program for the dedication of Harry R. Rosen Alternative Pest Control Center at the University of Arkansas, 1996.

Materials were removed from a plastic 3-ring binder for preservation reasons, but have otherwise been kept in their original order.
