Biographical Note

George Holcomb was born December 9, 1914 in Springdale, Arkansas. He graduated from University High at Fayetteville in 1931, received his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Arkansas in 1935, his master’s degree from the University of Arkansas, and a specialist degree in mathematics from the University of Kansas. He taught in schools in southwestern and eastern Arkansas and retired from the University of Arkansas in 1983 after teaching there for 23 years. He worked for 10 years at the First National Bank in Fayetteville, and was an Army infantry veteran of World War II. Holcomb passed away February 1, 1996.

The George and Mary Holcomb Scrapbooks were donated to Special Collections Department by George and Mary Holcomb of Bella Vista (Benton County), Arkansas on May 18, 1989.
