Scope and Content Note
The collection consists of official records of the Arkansas League for Nursing, as well as reference materials collected by its members, and papers of Linnie Beauchamp, who was an influential member of the organization. Materials include official ALN correspondence, memoranda, and minutes; documents related to the drafting of the ALN Constitution and By-laws; convention records; news releases; workshop, task force, and committee records; photographs; and clippings. Other organizations documented by materials in the collection include Peace Links, the Immunization Project in Arkansas, the National League for Nursing, the Arkansas Regional Medical Program, and the Arkansas State Nurses Association (now known as the Arkansas Nurses Association).

Access Restrictions Apply: Vitae in Series 6 are restricted.
Videotape (V-30H) is also restricted for preservation reasons; an access copy on VHS videotape is available for patron use.
Applications in Box 47, Folders 1-32, contain social security numbers, and are restricted for 75 years from the date of creation to protect personally-identifying information. Folder 33 contains children's health information from 1915, and is restricted for 150 years from the date of creation to protect personally-identifying medical information.

Biographical Note
The Arkansas League for Nursing (ALN) is a constituent organization of the National League for Nursing (NLN). It was organized in October, 1952, by the merging of the Arkansas League of Nursing Education and the Arkansas Organization for Public Health Nursing.
The ALN seeks to develop and improve organized nursing services and nursing education in local communities. It has addressed these needs through continuing education of staff and volunteers who serve on ALN workshops, task forces, and committees dealing with issues such as nursing homecare and ethics in the nursing profession.
From 1974 through 1979, the ALN, in conjunction with other health-related agencies, successfully carried out a statewide program of child immunization under the directorship of Betty Bumpers and the coordination of Nell Balkman of ALN. That program later served as a model for immunization programs throughout the rest of the country.

Acquisition Information
The first accession of Arkansas League for Nursing Records (Boxes 1-37) was donated to Special Collections by Maxine M. Otey of Little Rock, Arkansas, president of the Arkansas League for Nursing, on June 1, 1989. Additional materials (Boxes 38-55) were transferred to Special Collections by the Baptist Health College Little Rock Archives on June 15, 2017.
Processing Information
Processed by Norma Ortiz-Karp, Special Collections Division, University of Arkansas Libraries, Fayetteville, Arkansas, in January 1990. Additional materials (Boxes 38-55) were incorporated into the collection by Ashley Cain and Katrina Windon; completed in May 2019.
