Acquisition Information

Box LOC 285, Items 1-4 of the George Winfield Hayes Papers were donated to the Special Collections Department by Lina Hayes Watson of Fayetteville, Arkansas, in December 1972. Items in Box 1 were likely donated by Watson at a later date.

Biographical Note

G. W. "Felix" Hayes was a mechanical engineering student in the Preparatory Department of Arkansas Industrial University for the 1887/88 and 1888/89 sessions. He married Margaret Elisabeth Clark, and later served several terms as Washington County, Ark. Tax Assessor, 1906-1910, 1921-23, and 1925-30.

Documents relating to the teaching and political career of George Winfield Hayes, Hayes family participation in the Odd Fellows organization, and to the history of public school education in Washington County, Arkansas.
