Biographical Note

Leonidas Kirby was born in Green County, Missouri on December 1, 1850. He moved to 1872 from Missouri to Harrison, Arkansas in 1872, aged 22 where he established a drug store and saloon. In 1875, he traveled to St. Louis Medical College to study medicine. He practiced medicine for the remainder of his life, serving as president of Boone County Medical Society in 1882, president of the Arkansas Medical Society in 1904, and as member of the State Board of Health. Kirby was also highly active in his civic life and was responsible for the construction of many community buildings in Harrison. Kirby died aged 75 on August 20, 1926 in his home in Harrison, Arkansas.
